There’s something truly powerful about stepping on Country and seeing biodiversity conservation in action.
Recently, some of the TEM team visited the Wilderlands Coorong Lakes Project in South Australia. Guided by Lead Ecologist, Deanna Marshall and local Indigenous land managers, we saw firsthand the real and lasting impacts of protecting and investing in nature. Our partnership with leading biological credit developer Wilderlands is one we are truly proud of, and together with the support of our customers, we have already helped protect over 100,000 square metres of threatened Australian biodiversity.
The trip provided us with a chance to connect the dots between climate action and biodiversity conservation, and to learn more about the vital role businesses can play in safeguarding Australia’s precious biodiversity for generations to come.

On Country at Coorong Lakes
The Coorong Lakes Project is a joint effort between Wilderlands, Cassinia Environmental, and the Ngarrindjeri people, protecting 200 hectares of ecologically and culturally significant land and a biodiversity hotspot. The project has identified 15 threatened species and uses ecological monitoring, remote cameras and sensors to better understand and protect the landscape. It also supports local employment and deepens cultural connection through the involvement of the Raukkan Aboriginal community.

We had the opportunity to immerse ourselves in the Coorong Lakes project, learning more about this protected land which has enabled over 230 native plant species to thrive. Across the two days, we had the chance to hear from the co-creators of the project with leaders from Cassinia Environmental and the Ngarrindjeri people sharing how the project originated as well as the long-term aspirations for the property which will see the land handed-back to its Traditional Owners.

Addressing climate and nature together
At TEM, we’re seeing a clear shift from organisations that want to go beyond emissions reduction and take a more holistic approach to climate action. Many are exploring non-commodified climate finance models, such as directly supporting projects, and increasingly, they are choosing to invest in nature through biodiversity units. Our Extended Impact solution, developed in partnership with Wilderlands, is one example of how businesses can take tangible, credible action to protect vital biodiversity at a local level.
Our Extended Impact solution is a powerful example of how climate and nature budgets can work together, stacked to deliver measurable, high-integrity outcomes. The solution combines a one-square-metre Wilderlands Biological Diversity Unit (BDU) in South Australia, Victoria or New South Wales, with a certified carbon credit from TEM – blending measurable carbon emissions reduction with native biodiversity impact.
Watch below as we explain the solution.
Joining us on this experience was a select group of customers, including leaders from Goodman, Lion, BHP, ANZ, Woolworths Group, Investa, Allens, Suncorp Bank and CBRE. If you’d like to learn more about getting involved in our next event, please contact us.
